Mrs. Louis Hammer, a resident of Buena Vista county for the past 31 years and a resident of Storm Lake for 11 years, passed away at her home on Hudson street Monday, Aug 27th, following a few weeks illness. Miss Elwina Tech was born in Germany near the city of Coleburg, on July 2nd, 1851 and came to America in 1871 with acquaintances. She located in Effingham county, Illinois and in 1873 she was united in marriage to Louis Hammer. They lived on a farm in that county for 10 years and in 1883 they moved to farm near Eagle Grove and in 1892 they moved to Buena Vista county. In 1912 they retired from the farm and moved to Storm Lake and have since made their home here. To this union four children were born: Henry M. of Newell; Fred H. of Sulphur Springs; Louis F.H. of Pocahontas; and Miss Helena of Storm Lake. Sunday June 3rd of this year Mr. and Mrs. Hammer celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary and at that time both were enjoying good health. She leaves to mourn her husband and four children, 14 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the home Wednesday afternoon. Interment was made in the local cemetery.
