Mrs. Lucy McMillan, wife of James McMillan, passed from all earthly sufferings to her eternal home Thursday morning, February 25, almost thirty-five years old. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Middleton, born and brought up in Troy township, this county, married to James McMillan fifteen years ago. The stricken parents mourn the loss of two daughters within six weeks, Mrs. George R. Newcomb having gone before, January 15. The result of Mrs. McMillan's sickness was not unexpected; for several months her case was considered almost hopeless, and she looked forward to a release of life with calmness and fortitude.
It is seldom allotted to one to undergo the amount of suffering she was called upon to endure during her short life. Yet she realized her blessings were rich, having a kind husband whose every effort was to smooth her pathway of life, who devoted himself entirely to her care, and a bright little girl who quickly responded to a mother's teaching.
The funeral services were held at the Methodist church, of which she was a member, Saturday morning, and were conducted by Rev. Glasgow, assisted by Rev. E. Robbins, of Rutland, followed by the burial at Rose Hill cemetery. The remains of a little daughter that were interred in Troy cemetery ten years ago will shortly be removed to a place beside the mother.
"There is no Death! what seems so is transition:
This life of mortal breath
Is but a suburb at the life elysian.
Whose portals we call Death."Mr. McMillan desires to express his sincere gratitude to the kind friends who assisted at the last sickness and funeral of his wife, and contributed the beautiful flowers as a remembrance token.
