February 4, 1891 --- April 4, 1971

Miss Rose M. Weland, retired Canon City, Colo. High School teacher, succumbed Sunday at St. Thomas More Annex after serious illness of three months and poor health the past year. She was 80. She was born Feb. 4, 1891 in Eagle Grove and attended business college in Cedar Rapids. She obtained her teacher certificate in the state of Wisconsin, and taught there two years. She moved to Canon City in 1919 and worked as a secretary one year, then taught in the high school here from 1920 until retiring in 1959. Miss Weland was a member of the United Presbyterian Church and of the Progress Club of Canon City and the Retired Teachers Association. She was never married.

Survivors include sisters, Tillie Simpson of Eagle Grove; Emma Reynolds of Seal Beach, Calif.; Sadie Amosson and Marjorie Ulstad of Eagle Grove.

Funeral services were Tuesday, April 6, at Holt-Wilson Chapel of the Garden, the Rev. Ed Spence, officiating, Canon City, and at Eagle Grove. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove Monday at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home. Pastor Marvin Dooley officiated.

During her many years as a CCHS teacher, Miss Weland was in the business department, heading it for a number of years. She taught typing and other business and clerical subjects, and had served as class sponsor on several occasions. She is widely remembered by hundreds of former students as an outstanding and understanding educator.
