Little Hattie Allen

Must we indeed give up our darling,
And can it be she'll wake no more;
Oh! shall we not see our little Hattie
Until we meet on the shining shore?

Oh! sad indeed, was that inst parting
When the angels called our loved one away,
But we know she has gone to a home so happy
And could we wish dear Hattie to stay.

When the icy arms of Death
Enclosed the little form we love,
We raised our tearful eyes to heaven,
And knew she was with the God above.

When "mama" sees her little playthings.
And views her little vacant chair,
The tears will come, and she moans in her anguish
"Oh Hattie, It's more than I can bear."

But weep not dear mother, kindred, friends;
Our heavenly Father knoweth best,
And we'll all meet little Hattie again,
When we are laid to our final rest.

Do not think of your darling as gone for aye,
And that you shall see her no more,
She's waiting with arms opened wide to receive
You all on that beautiful shore.
