May Darling Cowan was born May 29, 1865, at Rockford, Ill. At the age of eight, she moved with her parents to Wright county, Iowa, living in a log cabin on the James farm west of town. In 1886 she was united in marriage with Ben Cowan. To this union four children were born, Paul, Ollie and Clinton, all residing in Eagle Grove. One girl died at the age of 1 month. Also surviving are four grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Lena Snowden of Charles City and one brother, Frank Darling of Roundup, Montana. Her husband, Ben Cowan, preceded her in death, April 30, 1920.
During her entire life time, Mrs. Cowan was a devoted member of the Methodist church. Her interests centered in her home, her family and her church. She, was a lover of flowers, always keeping up a fine flower garden, and generously remembered, her friends, and, especially the, sick, with beautiful bouquets of her own raising. She went through the last week of her suffering with great fortitude and faced the inevitable without complaint. Mrs. Cowan's life, was one of self sacrifice and thoughtful care for others than herself. The future in the world beyond can have nothing but a well deserved reward for a woman of her character.
