Marjorie Edna Maupin was born on Monday, July 6, 1931 in Dows, Iowa. She was raised on farms in Hardin County. She loved the piano and learned to play by trading various farm and household chores for lessons from a neighbor. She graduated from Iowa Falls High School in 1947. She received her teaching certificate from Ellsworth Junior College in 1949. Marge loved teaching and taught in both country and public schools. In 1956, Marge married Davis J. Maupin. They had four children: Grant of Waukee, Iowa, Susan Schmid (Jon) of West Des Moines, Iowa, Julie of Monroe, Iowa, and LeaAnn of Attleboro, Massachusetts. Besides her children, she is survived by her granddaughters: Jennifer, Angela, Sara, and Rebecca; three great-grandchildren: Devan, Shaylynn, and Anna; two sisters; and many nieces and nephews.

Marjorie Edna Hackbarth Maupin died peacefully in her home on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 after a brief recurrence of cancer. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dave; her parents Leroy and Edna (Patzer) Hackbarth; her brothers Kent, Lyle, and Gerald; and her sister Dorothy Johnson. The family suggests memorials be made to the Harlan Public Library [Harlan, Iowa].
