Services honoring Madlyne Adel Rasmussen Papot, 96, Greenville, NC, formerly of Humboldt County and Huntsville, AL, were held Monday, Sept. 30, at the First Methodist Church, Huntsville, AL. She died Sept. 20, 2013, in the presence of family in Greenville, NC. Madlyne is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Orvil Y. Reece, Jr.; and her three grandchildren, Shaun, Steven, and Todd Reece. She is preceded in death by her husband, George; her brothers. John, Lyman, Howard, and Alfred; and her sisters, Alice and Rose.
Madlyne A. Rasmussen, daughter of Lewis Howard and Martha Jane Rasmussen, was born at home, May 20, 1917, in Humboldt County. She was the youngest of seven children. She graduated Renwick High School in Humboldt County and, as a certified teacher. taught grades K-12 in a one-room schoolhouse in Iowa. She married George Papot in 1941, and lived in Glendale, CA, where she worked for the Gladding McBean Company. She be came a mother on April 25, 1949, with the birth of Susan Gay Papot. In 1957, Madlyne and George moved to Huntsville, AL, where Madlyne worked for the University of Alabama, Huntsville. Madlyne enjoyed her community as a member of the First Methodist Church, the Hospitality Club, and a Brownie troop leader. For Madlyne, family, the church, her Huntsville friends, and the card game Bridge were most dear to her heart. She loved crossword puzzles and reading history. In lieu of flowers, donations to the First Methodist Church or a hospice of your choice are recommended.
