March 5, 1935 --- June 3, 1984

Richard Gordon Bard, the son of Herbert and Matilda (Tillie) Knutson Bard, was born on March 5, 1935 at Iowa City, Iowa. He grew up in Eagle Grove and graduated from Eagle Grove High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. On May 12, 1956, he was united in marriage with Bernice Mersch at the Sacred Heart Church in Eagle Grove. For several years, he was employed by Kenneth Brauman in Eagle Grove. The family has lived in Lincoln, Nebraska, for the past 10 years, where Dick was an electronic technician at the Foote-Davis Mid-America WEB Press in Lincoln. He was a member of the St. Patrick's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus in Lincoln.

He died on Sunday, June 3, 1984, at the Veterans Hospital in Lincoln, Nebr., at the age of 49 years, 2 months and 28 days. He had been in poor health for the past several months.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bernice Bard of Lincoln; a daughter, Barbara, Mrs. Richard Sittner of Lincoln; three sons, Curtis of Des Moines, Jeffrey and Gregory, both of Lincoln; two grandchildren; two brothers, Harold Bard of Eagle Grove and Stanley Bard of Lincoln, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, Marine, and two brothers, an infant, Donald, and Merle C. Bard.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 6, 1984, at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove. Rev. Paul R. Peters was the officiant and burial was in the Calvary Cemetery at Eagle Grove. Rosary services were held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Eagle Grove and at 7:30 p.m. in Lincoln on Monday. Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
