Frank Bonner Dies At Age 69 After Illness

Frank Bonner, 69, building superintendent of the First Presbyterian Church and night man for Cage-Mills Funeral Home, died at 5:30 a.m. today in a local hospital. Bonner suffered a heart attack in December and was in a serious condition for several weeks. The "no visitors" sign had been removed from his door only a few days ago and yesterday Bonner ventured out in the hall for a visit with patients near his room. A native of Iowa, Bonner spent several years during his early life working as a brakeman for a railroad. He then traveled extensively through the Northwest and at one time worked for a funeral home in Seattle, Wash. He studied to be a mortician after returning to Iowa and receiving his license, he purchased a funeral home. Bonner worked for the Cage-Mills Funeral Home here from 1939 to 1942 as an ambulance man and assistant to the funeral directors. In 1947 he went to work for B. A. Carter as secretary when Carter was elected justice of the peace. He remained in that position three years. He was associated with the American Legion Home when it was on Shoreline. He later spent a year as bookkeeper for the Holman Electric Co. Bonner became associated with the First Presbyterian Church as building superintendent in 1954 when Dr. S. Evans Brown was minister. Later he began work again with Cage-Mills Funeral Home as night man. He was unmarried and resided in an apartment at 1002 Second. Bonner was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Pythian Lodge and was a veteran of World War I. Bonner was a large contributor to the Pythian's Children's Home in Weatherford and last year received a gold award from the lodge for his interest. The Rev. A. Arnott Ward, minister of Jackson Woods Presbyterian Church and former assistant minister at First Presbyterian Church, said Bonner had given financial aid to several young people to help them through college. He also had a great interest in the youth activities of the church, Ward said.

Bonner is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Bernette Giger and Mrs. Bernice Reynolds, both of Long Beach, Calif., and other relatives in Kansas City, Mo. The sisters were here during the holidays when Bonner was stricken, but had returned to their home. The Rev. John MacKinnon, minister of the First Presbyterian Church, said they are en route to Corpus Christi today. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Cage-Mills Funeral Home.
