Carolyn Elnora Ditty Mersch, age 94, of Urbandale, died on February 26, 2016. She was preceded in death by husband, Joseph; granddaughter, Anne; son-in-law Jack; son, Ron; and eleven siblings. She is survived by daughters, Gloria Christie, Cheryl Tefer (John) and Debra Taylor (Charles); sons, Joseph Mersch and Richard Mersch (Jean); daughter-in-law, Lynne Mersch; twelve surviving grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Carolyn was born and raised in rural Pennsylvania and graduated from Edgar J Meyer Memorial Hospital School of nursing in Buffalo, NY in 1941. Carolyn met and married Joe, who was a Master Sergeant with the Army Air Corp from Eagle Grove, IA. Carolyn raised six children while working as a Registered Nurse in the Des Moines area. She was a voracious reader and writer, and loved the natural world with a particular interest in flowering plants and songbirds.

The family extends special thanks to Sister Shiji at the Bishop Drumm Nursing Home in Johnston for making Carolyn's last days more comfortable. Private services have been held.
