Griffeth Carlson Troester, the son of Carl and Marie Roedel Troester, was born April 24, 1925 on a farm near Hampton, Nebraska and was baptized May 17, 1925 at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Hampton, Nebraska. He attended St. Peter Lutheran School in Hampton, Nebraska and was confirmed April 10, 1938 at St. Peter Lutheran Church. In 1940, Griffeth and his family moved to a farm in the Latimer, Iowa area. He graduated from Alexander, Iowa High School in 1943.

January 5, 1947, Griffeth was married to Arlene Borcherding at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Latimer, Iowa. They farmed in the Latimer area for 30 years. After a farm accident in 1975, they moved to Hampton, Iowa. Griffeth was County Auditor for 4 years. He then operated a shoe repair shop for a number of years. Griffeth was active in his church, teaching Sunday School and serving on many boards and committees.

Griffeth was active in the community, serving as a 4-H leader, Franklin County Farm Bureau board secretary and president, and was a member of the Farm Service Board of Directors for 7 years.

Griffeth is survived by his wife Arlene and four children: Sandra Herman and husband Keith of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Craig and wife Nancy of Providence Forge, Virginia, Joel and wife Joannie of Maputo, Mozambique, Africa, and Ranae Baker and husband Neil of Helena, Montana; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother Lowell of Brighton, Colorado, brother-in-law John Ahnert of Carol Stream, Illinois; brother-in-law- Leon and wife Rose, sisters-in-law Ernelda and Marjorie, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Griffeth was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Joan Ahnert, sister-in-law, Mildred and brother-in-law, Ivan.

"Griff" enjoyed being with his family, traveling, playing bridge and wood working. He had a positive attitude and showed much courage in all the difficulties he encountered. He took great comfort and strength from Romans 6:23, "The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord", and from John 6:47, "He that believeth hath eternal life". He loved his confirmation hymn, "In the Hour of Trial", and prayed it many nights when he went to bed, turn the thoughts of the trials of the day to something comforting. He showed much courage to do what needs to be done in the face of adverse circumstances. It was his faith that made him strong, loving, gentle, and courageous. He never took his eyes off the goal of honoring Jesus Christ in his life.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 20, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 16 12th Ave. N.E., Hampton, Iowa 50441. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 21, 2012 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 16 12th Ave. N.E., Hampton, Iowa 50441. Burial will take place at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Latimer, Iowa. Sietsema Funeral Home.
