May 3, 1832 --- May 12, 1916

Wm. C. Grover was born in the state of New York, May 3, 1832 and died at his home in Dows, Iowa, May 12, 1916. He was the last of the family of John and Polly Grover. He was ten years of age when he came with his parents to Illinois and settled on a farm north of East Paw Paw, which his father purchased from the government and where he lived until some fourteen years ago, when on account of the failing health of his wife, he moved with his family to this place. He was married to Miss Martha F. Jenkins in 1861, three children being born to this union, Charles G. and Mrs. Fred Cooper, both of Dows, Iowa and one child who died in infancy. Eleven grandchildren and a great grandchild with the son and daughter remain to mourn the loss of a good father and a grandfather, his wife having preceded him to the better land August 20, 1902. About ten years ago he moved from Paw Paw with his son to Dows, Iowa, where he made his home and was so tenderly cared for by his children till the time of his death. He was a kind husband, an affectionate and indulgent father and was held in high esteem in the neighborhood wherever he has resided and was a sincere christian at heart although he had never identified himself with any church. Thus a good life has ended here on earth, to begin a better one in the beautiful home farther on. Short funeral services were held at the M. E. church Monday afternoon conducted by Rev. O. T. Canfield. Appropriate music was furnished by Rev. and Mrs. Canfield with Mrs. Hazel Bryant as accompanist. Burial was in the East Paw Paw cemetery [Illinois].
