Joene E. Ellis, 81, of Ames, died Saturday, Nov. 13, at Belmond Care Center in Belmond. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 17, with visitation one hour prior at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery. Joene was born June 7, 1923, in Adrian, Mich., to Ross and Leona Wigent. She was a member and active volunteer at First United Methodist Church in Ames. She was an alcoholism counselor at Ames Regional Alcoholism Center for more than 15 years. She later worked at the Iowa State University library in business services until her retirement. She enjoyed square dancing, needlework and clowning.

She is survived by three daughters, Pamela (David) Gunderson of Des Moines, Patricia (Gary) Magoon of Ames and Penny (Gary Green) Fiscus of Fort Dodge; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Phil Wigent of Brooklyn, Mich.; and one sister, Marjorie Jean Dennis of Adrian, Mich., and Sebring, Fla. Memorial contributions can be directed to Belmond Care Center or Hospice. Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames is in charge of arrangements.
