George S. Carter of Oregon City, a retired federal meat inspector, died of congestive heart failure Sunday in his home at the age of 86. A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel of Young's Funeral Home in Tigard. Private interment will be in Crescent Grove Cemetery. He was born Oct. 21, 1904, in Chicago. Mr. Carter worked as a meat inspector for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 37 years until his retirement in 1968. He had lived in the Portland area for the past 23 years. His wife of many years, Gladys Carter, died in 1978.
Mr. Carter is survived by his daughters, Kay Hoferer of King City and Carol Stennet of Oregon City; brothers, John and Lynn of Thor, Iowa, and Craig of Pender, Neb.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
