Jeanette Jacobson, 91, of Platte, SD passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Avera St. Benedict Health Center in Parkston, SD. Funeral Services are 2:30 P.M. Sunday, March 22, 2015 at Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church in Platte. A Committal Service will follow at the Platte City Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to service on Sunday. Memorials in Jeanette’s honor may be directed to: The Gideons International, PO Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214.

Jeanette Halvorson Jacobson was born on December 9, 1923 in Northwood, ND to Jentoft and Josephine Halvorson. She was their second daughter, following Jeanive, her older twin sister, into the world by about 4 minutes. Jeanette also had one younger sister, Judy. When Jeanette was about five years old, the Halvorson’s moved to Grand Forks, ND, where her Dad worked as a barber. Jeanette was confirmed on May 29, 1938 and graduated from high school on May 29, 1941. After graduation, Jeanette attended Lutheran Brethren Bible College in Fergus Falls, MN. There, in the fall of 1941, she met her future husband, Gaylord Jacobson, who was attending seminary. They were married on May 29, 1943. The Lord blessed this marriage with five children: Gayolyn Annette (elle-je’), Gwendolyn Jeanive (Gwen), Roger Jerome, Cheryl Jeanette (CJ) and Charlene Joy.

Jeanette ministered with Gaylord for 44 years in the following churches: Bethesda Lutheran in Westby, WI; Ebenezer Lutheran in Rolette. ND; Blom Prairie in Toronto, SD; Augusta Lutheran in Marietta, MN. Liberty Lutheran in Rake, IA; and Hauge Lutheran in Goldfield, IA. Jeanette’s many roles included organist, pianist, choir director, choir and string band member, Sunday School teacher and superintendent as well as Vacation Bible School Director. During this time, she also taught private piano lessons, worked as an EMT and as a home health care provider.

The Jacobson’s retired from full-time ministry in 1986 and moved to Platte, SD where they managed the Dakota Country Inn for one year. In 1991, Gordy & Jeanive Solheim also retired and moved to Platte, placing the twins in the same location once again. They saw or spoke to each other several times a day and often showed up unintentionally dressed alike. Jeanette enjoyed music, board games, jigsaw puzzles, scrapbooking, reading, baking, entertaining guests, visiting the elderly and having members of her large family around her.

On Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at the age of 91 years, 3 months and 8 days, Jeanette met Jesus face to face. Her last words spoken on this earth were “I see angels,” and then they escorted her Home.

Jeanette leaves an incredible legacy of a woman of great faith and trust in Jesus, whom she declared was her best friend. She was God’s servant, a prayer warrior, wife, mother and grandmother. Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are: ell-je’ Freeheart (Ventura, CA), Gwen & Don Meyerink (Platte, SD), Roger & Barb Jacobson (Estherville, IA), CJ & Mac McKoy (Clive, IA) and Charlene & Allan Dykstra (Coeur d’Alene, ID); twelve grandchildren, two step grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren. She was an awesome Grandma! Also surviving Jeanette are her sister & brother-in-law, Jeanive & Gordy Solheim (Platte, SD), brother-in-law, Bud Egstad (Fergus Falls, MN), many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Jeanette was preceded in death by Gaylord, her husband of 62 years, her father, mother, sister, Judy Egstad and one great-granddaughter, Christi Den Besten.

Death takes life, but God takes death--it doesn’t have the final say.

Well done, Jeanette, good and faithful servant. Welcome Home!
