Chris Peterson was born January 19, 1869 at Udstrup, Denmark, the 3rd child of Peter and Kristin Hansen. He was married to Ulrikke Jacobsen of Stedntruo, Denmark, September 8, 1889. They left immediately for America by ship and settled on the farm known as the Little Place, now occupied by the Harry Ingebritson family. Later farming various places around Popejoy and Williams before settling on the farm now occupied by Alvin Lemke, which he purchased in 1899. There they lived until 1917, then moving to his present home at Popejoy where he passed away on Sunday morning January 1, 1960, at the age of 91 years, 21 days. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Ten children were born to Mr and Mrs Peterson. They are Louise David, Harlingen, Texas; Anna Butler, Inglewood, Calif; Albert, Austin, Minn; Oscar, Popejoy; Agnes Heard, Austin, Minn; Roy, Radcliffe; Laura Craig, Waukon; Gladys Boyington, with whom he made his home and one daughter and one son passing away in infancy. Besides his eight children, he is survived bt 23 grandchildren, 49 great grandchildren;2 great, great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. His wife, parents, three sisters and three brothers preceded him in death.

Mr. Peterson was confirmed when he was a youth in Denmark and for many years has been a loyal member of Popejoy Methodist church and has served as an usher for over 15 years, just retiring from that service a few months ago.

Funeral Services for Chris Peterson were held Wednesday afternoon at 2pm at Popejoy Methodist church. Burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers were Elmer Olson, Kenneth Thompson, W. E. Mathy, Franklin Petrie, K. C. Stoutner and Milo Rollene. Flowers were cared for by Miss Clara Graff, Mrs. Ed Nolte and Mrs. J. W. Fisher.
