January 16, 1930 ---- April 26, 2009

Max Christenson, 79, passed away suddenly on Sunday, April 26, 2009, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, Iowa. A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 1, 2009 at McLaren's Chapel with Pastor Barrie Tritle officiating. Interment took place at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines.

Max was born on January 16, 1930 in Webster City to Arthur and Bernice (Snyder) Christenson. He lived most of his youth in Stanhope and Jewell and graduated from Jewell High School in 1948. On October 8, 1950 he was united in marriage to Peggy Prehm of Ames. Max and Peggy made their home in West Des Moines. He was a U. S. Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and worked for Delavan in West Des Moines and as the Building Operations Manager for the Kansas City Corporation.

Max loved spending time in the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Some of his happiest times were when he was out for his weekly Sunday drive or out shoveling snow. Max enjoyed using his smoker where he would smoke anything from deer to Cornish hens or his delicious smoked salmon.

Max was a devoted husband and father and loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Peggy Christenson; two daughters, Candace (Dave) Jackson of Des Moines and Karen (Chuck) Buel of Booneville; son Rick (Carrie) Christenson of West Des Moines; eight grandchildren, Jamie (Viola), Rhonda, Jenny, Heather (Robert), Stephanie, David, Erica and Ashley; eight great-grandchildren, Daniel, Samantha, Madison, Alex, Sydney, Payton, Aurora and Hunter; sister, Gyneth Christenson of Arlington, VA; and daughter-in-law, Rose Christenson of West Des Moines. Max was preceded in death by his parents and son, Gary Christenson.
