Dale Robert Burkhardt, of Meservey, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at the VA Central Iowa after a battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Dale was born on October 29, 1960 in Owosso, Michigan to parents Edward and Joanne Burkhardt, and graduated from Owosso High School in 1978. Dale was many things. He was a proud father of four and a grandfather. He was a decorated military veteran, proudly serving his country in the Air Force. He retired from Eaton Corporation, which he considered family. He was an athlete, who as an adult enjoyed playing softball and bowling. He was a University of Michigan fan, but we can all forgive him his faults. He was also a Detroit Lions fan, and a NASCAR fan. To say he followed Jeff Gordon doesn't quite put it into words.

Dale was a humble, kind, and loving man; and he left a mark on all those he came into contact with. He referred to the people he liked as "trouble", but we all knew who "trouble" really was. He loved deeply, and only wished for the same from others. If nothing else, he always knew how to put a smile on your face. And he had a moustache that was the envy of every man.

Dale is survived by his children, Jeremiah, Erica, Gered, and Logan; his brothers Doug and Darrell; his sisters Sandra and Sharon; and his four grandchildren. Dale was predeceased by his parents, his brother Dennis; and his brothers-in-law Chuck and Ron.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 25, 2015 at Iles Funeral Home Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Chapel in Madrid, Iowa, with an open house from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., followed by a memorial service. Dale will be interred at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa on Monday, October 26, 2015, at 9:30 a.m. The family asks in lieu of flowers, those interested should instead make a donation in Dale's memory to The Gleason Initiative Foundation.
