Vanessa Rae Kessler Scheger, a nurse who lived in San Carlos, has died. She was 59. Scheger, who died Oct. 29, was born and raised in Meservey, Iowa . She graduated on the dean's list at Meservey-Thornton High School, class of 74. She attended the University of Iowa and received a Bachelor of Science in nursing. Scheger had planned on moving to Colorado but after Iowa had the worst winter in 10 years, she made a last-minute decision to go to California. She moved to the Bay Area, where she started working as a nurse. She always wanted to help people before they became sick so she changed jobs and became an occupational health nurse for Liberty Mutual Insurance Co. and later for Abbott Laboratories.

She married Paul Scheger in November of 1990. She later attended UC-San Francisco and received a master's in nursing administration. Scheger was a nurse for 35 years. She loved music and sports of all kind, especially baseball. Later in life, Scheger helped her mother and brother as they became less able.

Scheger is survived by her husband, Paul Scheger; mother, Viola Kessler; brother, Calvin Kessler; and his two sons, Elliott Ray Kessler and Austin Pals Kessler. She was preceded in death by her father, Raymond Kessler.
