October 1, 1918 ---- January 28, 1962

Harry Lester Bauge, son of Frank and Bertha Bauge, was born Oct. 1, 1918, in Popejoy, Ia. He moved to Des Moines in his early twenties, and with the exception of the time spent in the service of his country during WW II, the balance of his life was spent in this city. In 1943 he was united in marriage to Martha Riggs of Chariton. Four children were born to this union. Mr. Bauge spent two years in the Air Corps, eight months of that time in England. He was a gunner on a B-17. After his return to Des Moines he was a sheet metal worker and a member of Local 45. He was employed at the Iowa Sheet Metal Works.

He was totally unaware of the presence of leukemia until two weeks prior to his decease. Its progress was rapid and he died early Sunday morning, Jan. 28, at the age of 43 years, three months and 27 days.

In addition to his widow, Martha, he is survived by two sons, Harry Grant and Ralph Roy; and two daughters, Lyla Marie and Ellen Kay. Other survivors include two brothers, William of Hampton and Ernest of Eldora; two sisters, Mrs. Ida Spencer of Des Moines and Mrs. Frances Anderson of Denver.

Funeral services were held Jan. 30 at the McLaren Funeral Home in West Des Moines. The Rev. James Green officiated and interment was in the Chariton cemetery.
