October 28, 1894 ---- January 13, 1955

Mrs. Thomas Gray passed away suddenly Thursday, January 13, at the home of her son, Arlyn, near Elkader, Iowa. Death was due to a heart attack. She had been a resident in Jewell for the past 17 years.

Mrs. Gray had been staying at the home of her son, recuperating from injuries received in a pickup truck accident which occurred near Elkader shortly after Christmas. Mr. Gray was also injured in the same accident and was just released from Veterans' hospital at Iowa City last Friday.

Funeral services were held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at the Becker funeral home. The Rev. Mark Wetteland officiated at the service. A quartet, composed of Mrs. Francis LeMaster, Mrs. Gwen Lawson, Mrs. Wayne Spencer, and Mrs. Roy Nelson sang at the service. Mrs. Roy Schmedika accompanied the quartet at the organ. Interment was made in the Graceland cemetery at Webster City. Pallbearers were: Richard Clabaugh, Donald Clabaugh, Orville Gray, Elmer Clabaugh, Richard Black and Lars Hendrickson.

Gladys Mary Clabaugh, daughter of Willis Wilfred and Minnie Clabaugh, was born October 28, 1894 at Stanhope, Iowa, and died January 13, 1955, at Elkader, Iowa, at the age of 60 years, 2 months and 16 days. She attended the public schools and Jewell Lutheran College. She married Thomas Gray on January 23, 1919, at Stanhope, Iowa. Four children were born to this union, all of whom survive. They are: Mrs. Harold (Arlene) Dicus, Webster City, Iowa; Arlyn Gray of near Elkader, Iowa; Mrs. Harold (Alice) Sorenson, Ames; and Alan Gray, Jewell. Other survivors include: her husband, her mother, Mrs. Minnie Clabaugh; four brothers, Guy Clabaugh of Webster City, Ralph Clabaugh of Webster City, LeRoy Clabaugh of Stanhope, and Charles Clabaugh of Stanhope. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren. They are: Marilyn, Carol, Judy and Beverly Dicus; Dickie Sorenson; Cheryl and Lynn Gray.

Mrs. Gray was a member of the Federated church in Jewell. She was always cheerful and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.
