Elmer G. Kraft, 85, longtime Oregon [Illinois] resident and former Ashton resident, died Tuesday January 5, 2016 in Serenity Hospice Home, Oregon. Born February 26, 1930 in Dows, Iowa, the son of Elmer C. and Gail E. (Ellingson) Kraft. Married to Kathleen “Kay” White October 6, 1949 in Dows, Iowa. Elmer was a graduate of Dows (Iowa) High School and a US Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. He was employed by Rochelle Savings and Loan since 1979, first in Rochelle and then in Oregon, retiring as an Assistant Vice-President. He was a member of Oregon United Methodist Church and had been a longtime member of Ashton School District Board of Education, serving many years as President. Elmer enjoyed flower gardening, working on cars and any work with his hands.
Survived by his wife, Kathleen J. “Kay” Kraft of Dixon; sons, Michael W. (Pat) Kraft of Basin, MT and Steven G. (Ramona) Kraft of Dixon; daughters, Cynthia K. (Randy Rasmussen) Jensen of Janesville, WI and Kim R. (Steven) Toole of Ashton; 9 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and sisters, Marsha Haugen of Mason, Iowa and Mary Rachut of Osage, Iowa. Predeceased by his parents and a sister.
A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00pm Thursday January 7 in Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home, Oregon preceded by a visitation beginning at 5:00pm. Pastor Farrel Stauffer of Ashton Bible Church will officiate. Burial at a later date in Riverview Cemetery, Oregon. Memorials may be made in Elmer’s name to Serenity Hospice and Home, Oregon.
