Stella Irene Atwood, daughter of John and Marian Woodard Fisher, was born July 4, 1890 (during a snowstorm) in Troy Township, Wright County, Iowa. She was the fourth child in a family of five and was the last surviving member of her family. She received her early education in the Troy country schools and attended Eagle Grove High School, which necessitated her driving a horse and buggy to school daily. After graduation in 1910, she worked in the Eagle Grove Eagle office.

On February 26, 1913 she was married to George Archer Atwood in Eagle Grove and to this union two daughters were born, Marian Jane, who died at the age of six and Wilma. Mr. Atwood was the only child of Daniel and Nellie Atwood, a pioneer family. The family farmed many years before retiring to their home in Eagle Grove in 1968. She had lived her entire life in the Troy township and Eagle Grove community.

She was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church, Worthwhile Class, Eastern Star; a charter member of the Troy Culture Club and an active member of the Senior Citizens Club. Mrs. Atwood became seriously ill while visiting her daughter in Spokane, Wash, and died Friday, March 15, 1974, in the Madison North Convalescent Home. She was 83 years, 8 months and 11 days of age at the time of her passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, her husband in 1970, and two brothers, and two sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Ray Strange of Spokane, Wash., two granddaughters and two great-granddaughters.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 19, at 2:00 p.m. in the United Methodist Church, Eagle Grove, with Rev. Donald Forbes officiating. Interment was held in Rose Hill Cemetery.
