George Frank Wenzel was born on October 9, 1932 to Fred and Grace (Dirksen) Wenzel at the family farm near Alexander, Iowa. He was educated in the Alexander country school. He helped on the family farm until being drafted into the Army in 1952, where he served in the Korean Conflict. George married Mildred Smit on March 18, 1953 in the Zion Reformed Church parsonage. After serving in the Army, George and Mildred began their farm life together northeast of Belmond. This is where they enjoyed 62 years together. They were blessed with six wonderful daughters, through which his legacy continues.

George was a devoted member of the Immanuel Reformed Church near Belmond. He was passionate about his church and showed it in many ways. George loved serving his community through his many donations of blood, distributing Meals on Wheels and driving the Care Car. He continued to care for God’s earth, raising many beautiful flowers and vegetables, following his retirement from farming. Over his lifetime, George learned to appreciate the simple things in life, such as, spending time at his daughters’ and grandchildrens’ activities. He truly enjoyed having his family around him for celebrations. George touched many lives through his generosity and compassion.

Family and friends will dearly miss this loving and caring man. He loved to visit and never knew a stranger. GEORGE WAS JUST THE BEST!
