Joy Ann Buckingham was born December 27, 1926, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Earl and Blanche Fagen Buckingham. She attended grade school in Humboldt until 1936. She then moved to Eagle Grove, Iowa, and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1945. She then attended flight attendant school in Kansas City, Mo. She married Vernon Johansen on November 3, 1962, at Eagle Grove. She received Christ as her Saviour on September 22, 1975. They were owner and operator of Eagle Hotel, Eagle Grove, Iowa from 1969 to 1980. After they sold the hotel, they continued to live in Eagle Grove and, she was a housewife. They retired in 1990 and made their home in Eagle Rock, Mo. In 1993, they moved back to Fort Dodge, and in 1996, they moved to Carroll, Iowa. She was a past MYF leader in the Methodist Church, Sunday School teacher, sang in the church choir, was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Business and Professional Women's Club, and was a former member of First Southern Baptist Church, Fort Dodge.

Joy A. Johansen died Tuesday, November 2, 1999, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital, Carroll, at the age of 72. She is survived by her husband, Vernon, Carroll; two sons, Dennis Johansen and wife, Lola, LeMars, Iowa, and Douglas Johansen and wife, Sharon, Fort Dodge; two daughters, Debra Kasperbauer and husband, David, Manning, Iowa, and Diane Barker arid husband, Ricky, Carroll; 10 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and two brothers, Robert Buckingham, Homewood, Ill. and James Buckingham, New Braunfels, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral services were held on Friday, November 5, 1999, at Bruce's funeral home, Fort Dodge, with the Reverend Rick Hamilton, pastor, of Grace Baptist Church, Glidden, Officiating:. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery, Fort Dodge. Bruce's Funeral Home, Fort Dodge was in charge of the arrangements.
