George E. MENGE

MENGE, SWANGER, HACKLER, STOCKTON, SHEERAN

May 12, 1919 --- January 4, 2006

After a life time of service in the ministry, George E. Menge of Fruita, Colorado went to be with his heavenly Father on January 4, 2006. He was 86 years old. A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 7, 2006 at 11:00 am at Northeast Christian Church with Pastor David Menge officiating. Burial will be at the new Elmwood Cemetery in Fruita, followed by a reception luncheon at Fruita Christian Church.

George was born on May 12, 1919 to John Menge and Marie Hackler Menge in Port Township, Kansas. He graduated from Benkelman High School in 1938. He participated in football, basketball, and boxing. He received a Masters Degree in Bible and New Testament History from Phillips University in Enid, Oklahoma. On June 9, 1943 he married Dorothy Swanger in the Christian Church of Clarion, Iowa. They were married for 62 wonderful years, and raised 5 children together. They shared evangelistic work for 5 years traveling in various states, and then accepted a preaching position at the Rangely Christian Church for 40 years. He also taught Social Studies at the Rangely Middle School for 24 years. After retirement, they settled in Fruita, Colorado where George was called upon to preach at Fruita Christian Church until May 31, 1999. This marked 60 years that George spent in the service of our Lord Jesus Christ.

George was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and loved spending time with his family. He also enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing, camping, skiing, and raising and showing registered quarter horses.

In addition to his wife Dorothy of Fruita, George is survived by two sons: Dan (Joyce) Menge of Lynchburg, VA, and David (Debbie) Menge of Lawton, OK; and two daughters: Beth (Owen) Stockton, and Shallini (Tom) Sheeran, all of Grand Junction; and also 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and his son, Stephen Menge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Fruita Christian Church, 208 North Maple, Fruita, CO 81521 for missionary work in George E. Menge's name.
