Yale Anthony Schutt was born April 9, 1954 to Eldred “Tiny” and Beverly (Lester) Schutt in Clarion. He was raised and educated in Clarion and graduated from Clarion High School. Yale was united in marriage with Diane (Chapman) Prehm on May 28, 1983 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple made their home with Diane’s children in Clarion, and later at Elm Lake.

Yale worked for Eaton Corporation in Belmond for 27 years. During that time, he and Di began operating Flatlander’s Outpost, their bed and breakfast, and had been doing so full time for the past 4 years. Yale had also operated a home inspection business and worked for Wright County in planning and zoning in recent years.

Yale loved spending time outdoors, hunting and trapping, taking photos and taxidermy. He loved studying history, building and fixing anything and everything, and hosting family and friends at the lake. Yale’s love of his family and his faith were paramount in his life. He was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Clarion, where he served on several boards over the years. He enjoyed studying scripture and church history, and had a unique way of sharing his faith with others. He and several of his friends from Eaton met every Friday morning for prayer and Bible study for more than 20 years.

Yale is survived by his wife, Diane of Clarion; their children Todd (Sue) Prehm of Lenexa, Kansas, Missy (Dickie) Walls of Columbia, Missouri, Mike (Amber) Prehm of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Cindy (Brett) Poling of St. Francis, Kansas, along with 15 grandchildren and two more on the way; his father Eldred “Tiny” Schutt of Clarion; brother Steve Schutt of Clarion; siblings-in-law Carol (Larry) Bailey of Belmond, Kent (Esther) Chapman of Chula Vista, California, Connie (Jim) Terry of Clarion, Jane (Ed) Martin of Clarion, Greg (Carol) Chapman of Clarion, Cathy (Denny) Bruley of Clarion, and Lisa (Jon) DeMuth of Shell Rock, Iowa, along with numerous nieces and nephews, and faithful dog, Dax. Yale was preceded in death by his mother, Beverly Schutt in May of 2015.
