Sanford "Sam" R. Davis, 70, of rural Waverly, Iowa died on Thursday, September 24, 2015, in his home of natural causes.

Sanford was born on March 26, 1945, in Belmond, Iowa the son of Scott Bailey and Alva Shirley (Berhow) Davis. He grew up and attended school in Belmond, graduating in 1963. On January 25, 1964, Sam was united in marriage to Barb Tripp in Belmond Iowa. The couple moved to Waverly in 1964, where they raised their family. The couple later divorced. Sam worked for the Iowa DOT for 34 years, before retiring in 2000.

Sam was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed trapshooting, hunting fishing and four wheeling. In his younger years, he liked playing softball. But most of all, Sam enjoyed spending time with his family, and socializing in his garage with family and friends.

Sam is survived by his son, Blaine (Wendy) Davis of Waverly; daughter Stacy (Clay) Claybourne of Omaha, NE; three grandchildren, Nicole, Branden and Seth; sister Shirley (Steve) Hill of Clarion, IA; brother Dwight (Betty) Davis of Klemme, IA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at 1:00 pm, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly, Iowa, with Pastor John Brockschink officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday, September 28, 2015, from 4 to 7 pm at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly. Memorials may be directed to the family for later designation. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly is assisting the family.
