Ethel was born October 8, 1919 in Holstein, Iowa, the daughter of Milton and Meta (Mundt) Goettsch. She spent her early years on a farm near Holstein; then moved to town and attended school in Holstein, proudly participating in band and graduated in 1937. Ethel worked several jobs in Holstein before earning a country school teaching job. She taught for several years before meeting her future husband, Nate Bond.
On August 18, 1945, she was united in marriage with Nathan Bond in St. Louis, Missouri. The couple lived in Springfield, Missouri for a time while Nate finished his commitment in the National Guard. They then moved to Toledo, Iowa where Nate taught industrial arts and coached while Ethel enjoyed becoming the mother to their two children, Steve and Teresa.
In 1955, the family moved to Rockwell City where Nate taught industrial arts and coached while Ethel began her career in the school systems as secretary to the superintendent. She enjoyed interacting with the high school students and always joked about having “to train” all the new superintendents. Ethel enjoyed watching all the sports that Steve and Teresa participated in, and all that Nate coached. Their family centered around school life and school friends.
Ethel and the family spent many summer vacations traveling west to the mountains and camping. Family time was the focus for Ethel. Ethel was very proud of living independently in Belmond and then Clear Lake until recently entering Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake in August 2015. Her cat Coco was her steady companion for 16 years. Ethel was a member of the United Methodist Church in Rockwell City and then Belmond. She was an Honorary Life Time Member of the Rockwell City FFA Chapter for all of the support she gave the high school students.
Ethel is survived by son Steve (Leslie) Bond from Taos, New Mexico, daughter Teresa Pals (friend Ray Johnson) Clear Lake, three grandchildren: Maia (Con) Yunker from Manitou Springs, Colorado, Alex Bond from Durango, Colorado, and Katie Pals from New Ulm, Minnesota, and two great-grandchildren: Aden and Ava. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Nate, three sisters: Hazel, Harriet, Helen, brother Albert, and two nephews: Burdell and Arlen. DUGGER FUNERAL HOME -- Belmond, Iowa
