March 7, 1872 --- July 8, 1938

Charles Asahel Middleton was born March 7, 1872 near Eagle Grove, Iowa, where he grew to manhood. In the year 1890 he came, with his father, to this neighborhood. The rest of the family joined them soon afterward and thus the family found a permanent home. Charles was the son of Ellsworth Middleton and his wife, Clarinda [Lee]. The Middleton home soon became the meeting place of young people of the neighborhood, which signified the friendly and congenial spirit which prevailed in this home. Charles was ailing for a long period of time, but he paid little attention to his physical condition. Suddenly his trouble manifested its severe nature and he passed away very unexpectedly on July 8, 1938. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge, which organization assisted in the last rites. He leaves to mourn his departure two brothers and three sisters: Walter Middleton of Costa Mesa, California; Mrs. Anna Paine of Eagle Grove, Iowa; and Mrs. Wilburn Anderson, Mrs. Charles Soules and Archie Middleton of Gothenburg. Two brothers departed this life previously. Funeral services were conducted by Dr. Paul L. Philipp from Sholund's funeral home and the Banner Methodist Church on Sunday. The pallbearers were George Bailey, Albert Hecox, Frank Alexander, Elmer Jacox, Boyd Brooks, and Ted McNeal. Interment was in Peckham Cemetery.
