Catherine Claire DeLaura, 57, of Afton, [Virginia] died Friday, August 14, 2015, at Martha Jefferson Hospital, after an extended battle with breast cancer. Born July 16, 1958, in Belmond, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Karen Hanson Larson. Claire received her BS in Architectural History from the University of Virginia (1980) and a Masters of Architecture from Rice University (1987). She traded in her architectural career in 1990 to become a homeschooling mom.

She is survived by her husband, Louis, and their six children, Nichole, Tre, Cat, Amanda, Anna, and Olivia. A memorial service will be conducted 1 p.m., Saturday, August 22, 2015, at Portico Church in Charlottesville. All who knew her are welcome. In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor can be made at The Pregnancy Centers of Central Virginia or Mars Hill.
