Lois (Feller) Smith, 89, of Dubuque, Iowa, died peacefully at Oak Park Place on Tuesday, December 3, 2014. There will be a visitation at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 255 W. 10th Street, Dubuque, IA. A celebration of Lois’ life will follow at 2:00 p.m.
The youngest of eight children, Lois was born to Henry and Matilda Feller on December 23, 1924 near Elgin, Iowa. A graduate of Elgin High School, Lois earned her teacher certificaton from Upper Iowa University. She taught first grade in Greene and Reinbeck, Iowa. She married Claude Smith on July 11, 1948. Lois loved nature, gardening, cooking and handcrafts such as sewing and crocheting. She and her husband, Claude, enjoyed traveling visiting much of the United States as well as many locations abroad. Lois was a kind and loving mother, grandmother and sister. With quiet grace and generosity, she touched the lives of family, friends and acquaintances throughout her life.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Claude Smith, her three children, Joy Smith (David Rust), Linda (John) McClintock, Ken (Marilyn) Smith; three grandchildren Aaron Rust (Nadia Zaks), Caleb Smith (Devin Zeek), Sarra (Jennifer) Mullen; two great grandchildren Ella Zaks Rust and Madison Zeek; sister Iola Stannard and brother Clifford Feller.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Dubuque Arboretum and Botanical Garden, Dubuque, IA or First Congregational United Church of Christ, 255 W. 10th Street, Dubuque, IA. The Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory is in charge of arrangements. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice of Dubuque, the outpatient physical therapy staff at Enoble Rehab Center and the Staff at Oak Park Place for their outstanding care, love and support of Lois.
