Richard Alan McIlrath, the son of Raymond and Marian (Scholl) McIlrath, was born on December 8, 1951, in Mason City, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from Mason City High School in 1970. Rick worked for Chicago Northwestern railroad, traveling to many cities including Sterling, Illinois where he met his wife, Sherry. In 1980, Rick was united in marriage with Sherry Sanders in Marshalltown, Iowa. The couple made their home in Goldfield. Rick continued working for the railroad, retiring after 42 years from Union Pacific. He also worked for Monsanto in Clarion during the winter months. Rick was an active member and volunteer of the Goldfield United Methodist Church and enjoyed golfing.

Rick passed away on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at the age of 63 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jim McIlrath. Survivors include his wife, Sherry McIlrath of Goldfield; daughter, Autumn McIlrath of Grimes; son, Ricky McIlrath (Jennifer) and their children, Logan and Mackenzie of Fort Dodge; son, Sean McIlrath (Leah) and their four children of Austin, Texas and brother, Larry McIlrath (Amy) of Mason City.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, June 30, 2015, 11:00 a.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Goldfield with Rev. Lynn C. Gardner, officiating, with visitation from 10 am until service time. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
