Gene G. McNutt, 78, of Longmont, CO passed away May 23, 2015 at TRU Community Hospice Care Center in Louisville, CO. Gene was born on June 11, 1936 in Belmond, IA to Robert C. and Edna (Allaben) McNutt. Gene attended Iowa State University and served with the United States Navy during the Korean War. Gene married Thelma Hovde on December 31, 1957 in Ames, IA. They lived in California from 1959-1969 where he worked for numerous companies, most notably Jet Propulsion Laboratory. They lived in Boulder from 1970 -1976 and finally settled in rural Longmont. He worked on instrumentation for space development and was a project manager and aerospace engineer at the University of Colorado, Boulder for LASP, Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics until his retirement in the early 1990’s. Gene was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping. He toured the US with his camper, visiting many locations.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, brother and 2 sisters. Gene is survived by his wife Thelma of Longmont, daughters Gayle DiMauro (John) of Elizabeth, CO and Kathleen Gibson of Longmont, grandchildren Corey Borton (Rachael), Reed Borton, Curt Borton, Ryan DiMauro and Kaitlin Gibson (Zach Trainor), great-grandchildren Hayden and Kendall along with many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 10-11am followed by the funeral service at 11am on Monday, June 1, 2015 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s charity of choice.
