HOLD RITES FOR MRS. HOFFMAN
Native of Indiana Is Buried in Cemetery South of Garner
CLEAR LAKE - Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Ella Hoffman, 70, who died at a Clarion hospital Tuesday afternoon following an auto accident Saturday, were held at the Reformed church south of Garner Thursday afternoon. The Rev. William Huenemann, pastor, conducted the rites and burial was in the churchyard. A prayer service at the Williams funeral home in Clear Lake preceded the church service. Six grandsons, Virgil Scott, Lester, Ivan and Harold Hoffman and Albert and Fred Duregger acted as pallbearers. The Rev. Sidney Schuler and Mrs. Melvin Ouverson, Fertile, sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere."
Mrs. Hoffman was born Mary Redenberger on a farm near Brazil, Clay county, Ind., Feb. 19, 1871. She grew to womanhood there and was married to Frederick Hoffman in January 1890. In 1913 they moved to a farm near Webster City and 20 years ago to Garner. For 13 years Mrs. Hoffman had lived with her daughter, Mr. George Snyder, on a farm first, in Lake township, and for nine years in Clear Lake.
Mr. Hoffman died May 16, 1930, and is buried in the Reformed churchyard. A daughter, Kathryn, died 38 years ago and another, Mrs. Ed Duregger, April 20, 1939. One brother Andrew Redenberger, died 20 years ago. Surviving children are Mathias Hoffman, Fertile; John Hoffman, Webster City; Mrs. Guy Scott, Stratford; George Hoffman, Eagle Grove, and Mrs. Snyder, 714 South Fourth street. There are 30 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Three sisters, Mrs. Charles Romes, Center Point, Ind.; Mrs. Lewis Duregger, Jasonville, Ind., and Mrs. Edward Brown, Brazil, Ind., and three brothers, John, George and Conrad Redenberger, Perry City, Ind., also survive.
