Max Hamer, 80, of Woolstock, died Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at his home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 8th, 2015 at the Woolstock Community Hall with Rev. Jeff Flagg, officiating.

Max Dean Hamer, son of Harvey and Florence Smith Hamer, was born June 25, 1934 in Woolstock. He was raised on the family farm and graduated from Woolstock High School in 1953. Max was a long haul trucker for Ellsworth Trucking and later worked for Greenfield Trucking in Eagle Grove. He retired in 1996 after 30 plus years. He was very proud of achieving the over 3 million miles driven mark. After his retirement he worked seasonally, helping George Heller harvest corn and soybeans. He also enjoyed working with his brother Kenny, raising show pigs and breeding stock until Kenny got out of the business. When the farm was converted to Aronia Berries, he helped clear and plant. Max especially enjoyed mowing the Aronia Berries and watching them grow. Max was a firm believer that when making any repair, he only needed one of three items to make that repair, Duct Tape (his favorite), shoe glue, and bungee straps. He enjoyed his TV. He hated to miss any WWF wrestling match and would schedule events around the WWF. He also watched westerns, it didn't matter that he'd had already seen them. He loved a good bowl of well made chili, and the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Growing up on the farm, he treasured the horses, often taking night rides over to town with his brother Kenny. He developed a talent for giving people a "hard time", was stubborn as a mule and addicted to Diet Pepsi. He often rested under a pair of shade trees (his favorite spot on the farm) working a puzzle book, sipping a Diet Pepsi.

Max is survived by his brother, Kenneth Hamer of Woolstock, longtime companion, Kathy Duncan of PA; nephews and nieces, Glenda, Dean, Robin and Michael. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister-in-law Elaine Hamer; nephew Dale Hamer, and sister-in-law, Nancy Hamer.
