June 30, 1918 --- April 20, 2015

Harriet H. Schonberger, age 96, of Carroll passed away on Monday, April 20, 2015 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, April 24, 2015 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll with Pastor Brian Licht officiating. Friends may call at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll after 5:00 P.M. on Thursday where there will be a prayer service held at 7:00 P.M. The casket will be moved to the church at 8:30 A.M. on Friday where visitation will resume until the time of service. Organist for the service will be Jan Hoff and soloist will be Marv Toft. Casket bearers will be Bill Kliegl, Ron Kliegl, Dick Kliegl, Craig Olson, Eldean Olson, and Tim O’Brion. The St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary will form an honor guard at the church. Burial will be in the Carroll City Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll.

Born on June 30, 1918 in Badger, IA, she was the daughter of Elmer and Gornelia (Peterson) Olson. She grew up in Thor, IA, and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1936. Harriet taught country school for a few years before attending Tobin Business School in Ft. Dodge. She was married to Raymond L. Schonberger on January 29, 1943 at the Badger Lutheran Church. Ray and Harriet lived in Mississippi, Texas, and California while Ray served in the Army during WW II. Following Ray’s military service, they lived in St. Paul, MN, Sioux City, Ft. Dodge, and West Des Moines before moving to Carroll in 1968. Harriet sold Avon products and operated Harriet’s Ceramics in her home for many years. She then owned and operated Merri-land Pre-School also in her home. She also owned Harriet’s Dolls and taught porcelain doll making. Harriet was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was active in Bible study and church circles. She was a member of Clio Club, Carroll Lions Club, Sorority, and St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary. She volunteered at the New Hope Village Store and loved to play the piano at all the local nursing homes. Harriet was an excellent painter and she enjoyed entertaining family and friends. She was an avid traveler and was proud to say she had visited all 50 states collecting mugs, spoons, and magnets along the way.

Harriet is survived by a daughter Raynette Scannell and her husband Mick of Minneapolis; two sons: Rick Schonberger of Carroll and Rod Schonberger and his wife Darcy of Shawnee, KS; three grandchildren: Heather Petersen and her husband Zane of Albertville, MN, Ryan Scannell of St. Michael, MN, and Joel Schonberger and his wife Katie of Madison, WI; and two great grandsons: Bryant and Sebastian; two brothers: Elmer Olson and his wife Shirley of Eagle Grove and Willard Olson and his wife Margaret of Harlan; a sister Laurine Nelson of Minneapolis; and several nieces and nephews. Harriet was preceded in death by her husband Raymond, her parents, a son Robert in infancy, and three sisters: Willetta O’Brion, Jodella Nelson Legvold, and Elnor Nelson.
