Bruce O. Yarger was born October 3, 1926, in Storden, Minnesota, to Luther and Marie (Wagner) Yarger. His family moved to Clarion, Iowa, in 1937. He attended Clarion schools and graduated from high school in 1944. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in January 1945; basic training occurred at Great Lakes, Illinois, and school at the Naval Technical Training Center in Norman, Oklahoma. He was then stationed at the Navy Air base in Astoria, Oregon, and was subsequently sent to Japan as part of the Occupation Forces. Upon discharge Bruce worked for several years in a clothing store in Clarion.

Bruce was united in marriage to Lois Ann Patrick on February 1, 1951, in Royal, Iowa. They moved to Atlantic, Iowa, where he spent 28 years as a bridge construction foreman with A.M. Cohron & Son. After retirement he worked with Rich Bernhardt in construction and named themselves ‘two old coots’. He spent time on wood working projects and gardening. He was a member of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church, a trustee for 15 years on the parish council, served on the finance committee and as a Eucharistic minister.

Bruce is survived by his spouse Lois. Siblings; Gwen Amonson (Lyle) of Eagle Grove, IA and Larry Yarger of Bedford Beds, England. Children; Brad Yarger of Centerton, AR, Brent Yarger (Joan) of Atlantic, IA, Teresa Lane (James) of Iowa City, IA, Doreen Koch (Tim) of Neola, IA and Janet Yarger of St. Louis, MO. Grandchildren; Kelly Yarger (fiancé David), John Hansen (fiancée Wendy), Ily Lane (spouse Katie), Clint Hansen, Brent Yarger and Andrea Hansen (fiancé Tony). He has ten great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Eunice, Ron, Dean, Noreen, Donna Rae and Dennis.

Bruce will be greatly missed for his giving nature, joke telling, singing old songs and telling family and friends ‘peace be with you’.

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2014, in the Hockenberry Family Care funeral home in Atlantic, Iowa. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014, at 10:30 a.m., at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic. Interment will be in the Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Atlantic. Lunch and fellowship will be held in the church parish center following the interment. Memorials may be made to the family to be used per Bruce’s wishes at a later date.
