Of all the gifts that life has to offer, a loving mother is the greatest of them all!

Opal (Claude) Dillon departed this life peacefully with her children by her side on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, IA. Her funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday February 9, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Alden, IA. Please join our family for visitation from 3 to 5 P.M. on Sunday February 8th, 2015 also to be held at the United Methodist Church in Alden, IA.

Opal was born on May 25, 1931 in Galt, IA. to Gene & Mary (Krouch) Claude. She graduated from the West Bend High School in West Bend, Iowa. On June 19, 1949 she was united in marriage with Ivan Dillon in Algona, IA. To this union they were blessed with 6 children, Her family was her focal point, and she will be greatly missed by her loving family, Linda (Mark) Lettow of Roland, IA., Deniese (Dillon) Webb of Owassa, OK., Donna (Dillon) Bergeson of Sand Springs, OK., Joe (Kyle) Dillon & Mary (Michael Hunt) Vaughn both from Alden, IA. She was also a loving grandmother to, Matthew (Sara) Lettow, Angie (Jon) Bartlett, Rachel (John) McMenamin, Jami (Haley) Dillon, Jeremy (Tami) Dillon, Christy (Kyle) King, Sara (Blake King) Bergeson, Ryan (Kristi) Dillon, Theresa (Al Smith) Dillon, Todd (Fiancé Kendel Gehl) Dillon, Eric Vaughn, Justin (Fiancé Erin Skarvedt) Vaughn and her 18 Great Grandchildren.

She was very active in her church where she was a 50+ year member of the United Methodist Church in Alden, IA. Along with being very active in her church she was also involved with the Alden Food Pantry, Meals on Wheels & the Cemetery Society. She also enjoyed reading, playing cards, bingo, crocheting, making beautiful quilts, and many afghans which all of her family members will treasure forever.

Opal is survived by 2 sisters, Marilyn Wickman of Emmetsburg, IA and Della Haugland of Mesa, AZ. 1 brother-in-law Bill Studer, Algona, IA., sister in law Monie Fox of Peoria, Ill. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 40 years Ivan, son Denny Dillon, daughter Cheryl Kae, son-in-law Rick Vaughn, 2 brothers & 1 sister and many loved ones who have gone before her. The Surls Funeral Home of Alden is in charge of arrangements.
