Evelyn Margret Mary Neumann, age 92, of Dassel, formerly of Silver Lake, died Wednesday, April 15, 2015, at the Augustana Lakeside Health Care Center of Dassel [Minnesota]. Her funeral service will be Tuesday, April 21 at 1 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in Dassel, with Father Brian Mandel officiating. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. Visitation will take place Tuesday one hour prior to the service, from noon to 1 p.m., at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel, which is handling the arrangements.
Evelyn was born April 7, 1923, in Wabasha, to Otto and Mary Getschmann. She was baptized and later confirmed at the St. Felix Catholic Church. Evelyn grew up in Wabasha and attended St. Felix Catholic School for her education. She was employed as a nanny for several years, and had also been employed as a telephone operator in Minneapolis. Evelyn was united in marriage to Albert Neumann Aug. 21, 1942, at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. Upon Albert’s completion of his military service, the couple made their home in Luverne; Kanawha, IA; Tracy; Kellogg; and Silver Lake.
Evelyn had worked cleaning homes in Tracy, Kellogg, and Wabasha for several years. She enjoyed sewing, putting together puzzles, and spending time outside taking care of her flower garden. Evelyn especially loved family special events and holidays. She would often be found spending summers with her grandchildren when they were young. Evelyn will be missed by her family and her friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Sue Rauch of Dassel; five grandchildren, Travis (Lisa) Olson, Lynette (Jason) Crayford, Sarah Rauch, Jeremy (Catherine) Neumann, and Jason (Jennifer) Neumann, and 13 grandchildren. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Albert; two sons, Albert Jerry Neumann, and James in infancy; parents, Otto and Mary Getschmann; and six siblings, Mary Petroff, Herbert Getschmann, Robert Getschmann, Otto Getschmann, and Yvonne Blim.
