Lois M. Sprau, age 85, of Watertown, South Dakota, and long-time resident of Meservey, passed away Wednesday April 15, 2015 at the Jenkins Hospice Center in Watertown. Funeral services for Lois M. Sprau will be held at 1:30 P.M. Saturday April 18, 2015 at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South in Belmond. Robert Dugger will preside over the funeral service. Burial will be in the Meservey Cemetery south of Meservey. Visitation for Lois M. Sprau will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. Friday April 17, 2015 at the Dugger Funeral Home and will continue for an hour prior to services on Saturday. The family wishes memorial contributions be made in Lois M. Sprau’s name to the Wounded Warrior’s Foundation; fostering a well-adjusted successful new generation of wounded service members.
Lois M., the daughter of Herman and Elsie Staffecker Jutting was born August 16, 1929 in Mason City, Iowa. Lois grew up with her family in Clear Lake, South Dakota where she attended schools. Lois was united in marriage to Jacob Sprau on December 11, 1948 in Vinton, Iowa. The couple started their family by making a home in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, while Jake worked road construction. In 1955, the young family moved to Meservey. It was there, the couple raised a family. Lois worked diligently to be a great homemaker and better yet mother. Of all the numerous busy aspects, Lois relished in life, being with her kids and grandchildren was most important. Jake passed away in 1993, and Lois moved to Watertown, SD in 2001, to be closer to her siblings.
Lois is survived by her children, Gregory and Deb Sprau of Stanchfield, MN, Karen and Keith Johnson of Meservey, Kevin and Kathi Sprau of Monticello, Michael and Tracee Sprau of Ottumwa, eleven grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren, three sisters, Helen Stavick, Violet Engles, Betty Minnick, brother, Harold Jutting, numerous other nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jake, grandson, Dustin, a sister and four brothers.
