Mrs. Mary Hall Services Held
Rites Conducted at Local Funeral HomeFuneral services for Mrs. Mary Hall, 88, widow of Charles Sumner Hall, were held at the Major Memorial chapel Friday afternoon, with the Rev. Peter J. Jansen, pastor of the First Congregational church, officiating. She died Wednesday at St. Louis, where she had been residing for the past 6 months with her daughter, Mrs. Charles Martin.
Mrs. Hall was born Mary Elizabeth Elder at Blairsville, Pa., Sept. 16, 1862, the daughter of George and Margaret Elder. They moved to Upper Grove, Iowa, near Goodell, at an early day. Mrs. Hall attended school there and later attended Iowa State college at Ames. She taught at Garner, Clarion and Belmond.
Railroad Builder
In 1885 she was married to Charles Sumner Hall, pioneer railroad builder. He was a graduate of the University of Iowa and devised methods of raising track elevations. He was a civil engineer and laid out town sites all through Iowa and the Dakotas. They lived at Winona, Minn., for about 10 years, and at Evanston, Ill., for more than 40 years. She was a member of the D.A.R. at Winona and was a lifelong member of the Congregational church.
Survived by Daughters
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Charles Martin, St. Louis, and Mrs. Harry Simpson, Los Angeles, a sister, Mrs. Carrie Trumble, 1124 Penn. N.E., and a brother, Dr. Adrian Elder, St. Joseph, Mo., Mrs. H. M. Hoag, cousin, Mason City, and Mrs. Gail James Vineer, niece, Mason City, and two grandchildren, Mrs. Austen Lowenhaupt, Webster Grove, Mo., and Mrs. Fred Drosten, Oak Ridge, Tenn., and 4 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and a daughter.
Mrs. Roy Servison played obsequial music on the organ. Interment was at the Concord cemetery at Garner. The Major funeral home in charge.
