September 12, 1938 --- November 13, 2011

HARDY - James R. Cerwick, 73, of Hardy, formerly of Fort Dodge, passed away on Sunday, November 13, 2011 at Trinity Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Thursday November 17th, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife Mary of Hardy; sons, Randy (Windy) Cerwick of Fort Dodge; Ron (Teri) Cerwick of Hardy; Ray (Naima) Cerwick of Perry; Tom (Michelle) Cerwick of Dakota City; daughter, Julie (Scott) Shimon of Gilmore City; step-children, Cheryl Smith of Roleyn; Pam (Dick) Williams of Biloxi, Mississippi; Troy (Rhonda) Sorenson of Fort Dodge; Kerry (Lance) Werdell of Fort Dodge; Mark Sorenson of Eagle Grove; 25 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Arleta (Bakken) Cerwick Sr.; grandsons, James and Jesse Cerwick; step-son Marlin Sorenson; and his brother, Don Cerwick.

James Richard Cerwick was born on September 12, 1938, in Fort Dodge. He attended schools here and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School. Following his education he went to work for Gus Glasier Meats and later Ideal Heating and Sheet Metal. Jim eventually went to work for himself as a self employed carpenter for many years. He was a jack of all trades and there wasn't anything he couldn't fix. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Jim enjoyed fishing, being outdoors, family picnics, camping, swimming, hunting, and bowling. He was an accomplished fast pitch softball player in his day too. After years of being companions and best friends he married Mary Good in 1995 and the couple made their home in Fort Dodge and later moved to Hardy. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
