BELLEVUE, Iowa - Marjorie Eggers-Portz, 90, of Bellevue, passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2015, at Mill Valley Care Center in Bellevue, surrounded by her children. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday morning, March 30, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bellevue. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Visitation for Marge will be held from 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Hachmann Funeral Home & Cremation Service and again on Monday morning from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 at the funeral home.
Marge was born on August 24, 1924, in Clarion, Iowa, daughter of Peter and Gladys (Smith) Wanken. She married Willard Eggers on January 21, 1942, in Bellevue; he passed away June 2, 1981. She later married Earl Portz on July 2, 1982, in Bellevue, and they lived in Albia for 27 years. He passed away May 23, 2009.
Marge was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, where she started the hot lunch program at St. Joseph's and Marquette and served as the director for 23 years. She was fun, loving and had a great sense of humor. Marge enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting gardening and painting. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, all of whom received her beautiful quilts, along with many other relatives and friends. She will be deeply missed.
Those left to honor her memory include her four sons, Daryll "Butch" (Carolyn) Eggers, of Bellevue, Virgil "Rocky" (Barb) Eggers, of Bellevue, Willard "Greg" (Val) Eggers, of Dubuque, and Dan (Caroline) Eggers, of the Marshall Islands; two daughters, Kathaleen Charlton, of Tampa, Florida, and Bette "Tweet" (Tom) Lyman, of Davenport, Iowa ; a stepson, Terry Portz; two stepdaughters, Pam (Kerry) Ridgeway and Karen (Mike) Pickerell; 22 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and two brothers, Francis (Judy) Wanken and Daniel (Gaye) Wanken. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; a stepson, Paul Portz; and five sisters, Kathlaleen, Rose, Bette, Sharyll and Mary. The family would like to thank the staff and volunteers at Mill Valley Care Center and Hospice of Jackson County for their special care and compassion to Marge.
