August 20, 1851 -- September 12, 1911

H. J. Johnson died at his home in the Fourth Ward Tuesday Sept. 12th, at 3:20 p. m. after an illness of seventeen weeks with cancer of the stomach. The deceased was born in Norway Aug. 20th 1851 and came to Wisconsin in 1871 and in 1872 was married there to Miss Elina Korslund. Three children were born in Wisconsin and seven in Iowa. Five of the children are now living and all but one were present at the funeral. They came to Iowa, Humboldt county in 1874 and to Eagle Grove in 1895 where Mr. Johnson worked at his trade, a carpenter. Of the children one, Miss Gina, is at home with the mother. one lives at Thor, one in Des Moines and one, Otto a graduate of our schools lives at Livermore where he is in a bank with his uncle. The funeral was held at the United Lutheran church, after a service at the home, at 2 o'clock p. m., Rev. Sovde preaching the sermon, in the illness of the pastor Rev. Thorson. Mr. Johnson was a member of the Lutheran church, a good husband, father, and citizen, and was honored and respected by all who knew him. The interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery. The Eagle joins in the general sympathy for the bereaved wife and children.
