Death of Mrs. A. E. Harlan
Passed Away at Her Home In Eagle Grove, Ia
Funeral Here Wednesday Afternoon and Burial Was In Mount Hope

Mrs. Abbie Wolfe Harlan passed away at her home in Eagle Grove, Ia., at 8:50 o'clock Saturday evening, May 17, 1919. The news of her death was received with profound sorrow by a host of friends in Humboldt. During a period of five months she had patiently endured serious illness.

Abbie Wolfe was born October 18, 1890, being at the time of her demise 28 years, 9 months and 29 days of age. Her mother passed away nine years ago and three years later this loss was followed by the decease of her father. So upon her fell the task of keeping the home together, assisting her two younger brothers, John and Edward, through school and rearing the little sister, Fern. This she did most successfully, both of the boys graduating from Humboldt high school, and Fern graduates this spring from the high school at Eagle Grove.

Added to her home work was the task of teaching and for several years Abbie Wolfe was a successful teacher in the Humboldt city schools, beloved by her little pupils and honored by the mothers and fathers of the town for her capable, efficient service, her high ideals and love for the brothers and sister whom she so nobly labored to help. July 14, 1916, she was married to Arthur Harlan of Alden, Ia., going to that place to make her home. Mr. Harlan is now a conductor for the Chicago & Northwestern railway, with headquarters at Eagle Grove.

To their happy union was born two sweet and lovely children, a daughter, Helen Margery, aged 3 years, and a baby boy, Robert Monroe, born December 9, 1918. These little ones bereft of a mother while yet so young will be tenderly cared for by Mr. Harlan's sister, Mrs. E. E. Ellsworth, of Eagle Grove. Besides her husband and children Mrs. Harlan, is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Posey, Aztec, N.M., and Miss Fern Wolfe of Eagle Grove, Ia.; three brothers, Worthy W. of San Antonio, Tex., John of Eldorado, Kans., and Edward, who is in the army service, at present in the National Soldiers Home in Virginia on account of illness.

From girlhood Mrs Harlan lived a consistent Christian life. She was a member of the Methodist Church of Humboldt, on September 16, 1915, transferring her membership to the Methodist church at Alden, Ia., and on September 10, 1918, transferring it to Eagle Grove, Ia. Here was a noble lovely character and will leave its impress upon her family and friends.

The remains were accompanied to Humboldt by the sorrowing husband and sister, Fern, arriving on the noon train Tuesday. Funeral services were conducted at the Methodist church by Rev. C. L. Crippin at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon and Supt. C. M. Hilleary paid a beautiful tribute to the deceased with whom he had worked in the schools, in a sketch of her life and work. The remains were followed to their last resting place in Mount Hope cemetery by a large and sorrowing concourse of friends.

"But to live in the hearts we leave behind, is not to die."

Relatives who came to attend the funeral were: Worthy W. Wolfe and daughter, Forest, of San Antonio, Tex., Mr. and Mrs. John P. Wolfe and baby of Eldorado, Kans., C. F. Wolfe and daughter, Miss Retta, Ottawa; Dr. M. E. Wolfe, Parsons; Dr. and Mrs. O. O. Wolfe, Ottawa; Mrs. A. E. Middleton and daughter, Mrs. A Opdike, Altoona; Mr. and Mrs. F. B. Harlan, Afton, Okla.
