John A. Peck, age 97, longtime resident of the Wellington and Belle Plaine area [Kansas], passed away early Monday morning, March 16, 2015 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS. John was a retired farmer and stockman.

John A. Peck was born on February 4, 1918 in Clarion, IA to F. Myrle Peck and Minnie J. (Niebuhr) Peck. He was a 1936 graduate of Wellington High School. He served in the United States Army during World War II from March 25, 1942 – December 14, 1945. Besides farming he served the community as a Board Member of Avon Township and Avon School District. He married Edith Carol Blankenship on December 31, 1947 in Wichita, KS. She preceded him in death on July 31, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Edith; and two brothers, Earl E. “Bud” Peck and Harold Peck. Survivors include his four children, David Peck and his wife Kathy of Wellington, Jeanette O’Hair and her husband Carl of Coldwater, KS, Janice Yoder and her husband Fred of Wellington, and Julie Peck of Belle Plaine; grandchildren, Craig and Aaron O’Hair, and Sara and Brian Peck, step-grandchildren, Mike, David, Curt, and Phil Yoder; cousin, Joanna Cornelsen; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Lois Augustyn.

Funeral Services will be held at Frank Funeral Home on Friday, March 20, 2015 at 10:30 A.M. Pastor David Lawless will officiate. Interment will follow the service at Sumner Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, March 19, 2015 from 1:00 – 8:00 P.M. Memorials have been established with the Avenue of Flags, Futures Unlimited, and Wellington F.F.A. Contributions can be left at the funeral home. Frank Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
