E. O. James Dies Suddenly at Elysian
Funeral Services Held Thursday for Former Waseca Resident - Burial at Elysian

Mr. E. O. James passed away at his home in the village Tuesday morning, Sept. 11, at eight o'clock. He had been in poor health for some time, and the end came peacefully from heart trouble. Elmer (Eugene) Oliver James was born Nov. 15, 1861, one mile north of Waseca. He was the son of Oliver James who was born in Montreal, Canada, and Julia Brossard James who was born in Syracuse, N. Y. On Aug. 30, 1887 at Le Sueur Center he was married to Laura E. McAlpine of Belmond, Iowa, who survives with three sons, Ralph, Orval and Elmer, all of Elysian. One son, Oliver, died at the Great Lakes Naval Camp on Feb. 5, 1918, and was interred at Eden Valley, Minn. Mr. James lived at Waterville from boyhood until 1890, when he moved to Redwood Falls, where he resided until 1900, when he moved to Rice Lake, Wis. After living there four years he returned to Redwood Falls, where he resided seven years, and in 1911 moved to Eden Valley, where he lived until 1919, when having disposed of his farm he moved with his family to Elysian, where he resided until his death. Mr. James was a good neighbor, a kind husband and loving father, and will be missed in this community where he was a respected citizen. Rev. Rideout, pastor of the Methodist church, officiated at the services held at the home Thursday afternoon, and services were conducted by the I. O. O. F. of which order the deceased had been a member for more than thirty years. Interment was made in Cedar Hill cemetery. The pallbearers were C. S. Haskell, J. B. Keil, Jos. Novotny, G. S. Warburton, C. P. Long, R. Antl. Besides his wife and three sons, Mr. James is survived by one brother, Elmer James of Hawkins, Wis., and six sisters, Mrs. Melissa Cornish, Mrs. Esther Oleson, Mrs. Eugenia Wells, and Mrs. Martha Ketcham of Rice Lake, Wis., Mrs. Julia Orcutt of Lucan, Minn., and Mrs. Lillian Foster of Sanders, Montana.
