April 12, 1925 --- February 18, 2015

Ruby Margaret (Warden) Crowl, 89, of East Dubuque, IL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, IA, with her husband, Ray, by her side. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 23, at the Wesley United Methodist Church in East Dubuque, with Pastor Kayla Lange officiating. Burial will be in the East Dubuque Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Miller Funeral Home in East Dubuque and after 9:30 a.m. on Monday at the Church.

Ruby was born April 12, 1925 in Polk City, IA, the daughter of George W. and Bessie A. (Zackery) Warden. She married Ray E. Crowl, son of Herbert and Lenore Crowl of Goldfield, IA, on May 19, 1945 in Madison, WI, while Ray was serving in the U.S. Navy. Ruby was active in the Wesley United Methodist Church in East Dubuque and served as Sunday School Teacher, Chairman of the Prayer Chain, and Member of the Women's Society. She truly loved and enjoyed her family. Ruby lived a life full of love, and was never without her trademark smile and positive attitude. She was truly a kind, faith-filled, beautiful, compassionate, loving, sweet, and caring woman in every sense of the word. Hardly a day went by that Ruby wasn't expressing her love and pride for her great-grandchildren and encouraging them to do what made them happy. Neither did a day go by without her husband of 69 years by her side. She and Ray were inseparable, like two peas in a pod. The love they shared was obvious to anyone who saw them during their frequent dates at Olive Garden, walks around Dubuque's Kennedy Mall, and visits to Church. It would be selfish to say that we will miss her terribly, because we know we are not the only ones. Many, many people were touched by her presence. We are just so lucky that we were able to know her and to love her.

Surviving is her husband, Ray; two children, Joyce (Dan) Busch of Dickeyville, WI and Greg (Andrea) Crowl of Cape Coral, FL; as well as five grandchildren, Tina Mowery, Terry Busch, Tracy Cushman, Christian Fisher, and Erik Fisher; and 14 great-grandchildren, Megan, Jesse, Emilie, Nathan, Natalie, Caitlyn, Sydney, Austin, Thayden, Ian, Adeleine, Quinn, Tegan and Tate; and one sister, Zetta (Maynard) Gruver, of Des Moines, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, nine sisters and two brothers.

Ruby's family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Matthew Kirkendall and Kate, his nurse, for the wonderful care provided to Ruby.
