May 26, 1944 --- February 14, 2015

Judy L. McLaughlin, age 70, of rural Belmond, passed away Saturday February 14, 2015 at her home west of Belmond. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Judy L. McLaughlin at 10:30 A.M. Thursday February 19, 2015 at the St Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Belmond. Rev. Jerry Blake will officiate. Burial will take place in the St Francis Cemetery east of Belmond. Visitation for Judy L. McLaughlin will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. Wednesday February 18, 2015 at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane South in Belmond. A Scriptural Wake service will be held at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home. There will be no visitation prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Judy McLaughlin was born May 26, 1944, to Fred Gordon and Mary (Baird) Gordon in Santa Monica, CA. When Judy was a year old her family moved to Belmond. Judy grew up and attended school in Belmond and graduated from Belmond High School in 1962. After graduation Judy worked at First State Bank in Belmond.

Judy married Vernon McLaughlin on September 25, 1965 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. The couple was blessed with three children, Daniel, Mindy and Leslie. They made their home in Belmond. Later they moved to a farm south of Belmond and lived there until the home they designed and constructed on Morse Lake was ready to move in. Judy did a lot of the finishing work and decorating inside the house. Judy worked for Central Soya in Belmond. She graduated from Buena Vista college and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Business. She bought Express Personnel and then managed that business until her retirement.

Judy loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She and Vernon were constantly on the road traveling to their grandchildren’s sporting events and music concerts. Judy enjoyed traveling. She made many trips to California to visit her daughter, Leslie and family. She also spent the winters in Florida for several years. Judy was an avid reader. She loved sports of any kind, but had a passion for “Golf”. She enjoyed golfing at Clarmond or Belmond and she also did scrapbooking. Judy loved gardening, she cleaned brush from around Morse Lake. Judy belonged to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Cedar Falls Chamber of Commerce and the United Way.

Judy is survived by the love of her life Vernon (Vernie), one son Daniel, Clear Lake, IA, two daughters, Mindy (Gregg) Gunderson, Lake Park, IA and Leslie (Scott) Weisbrook, Torrance, CA. Brother Lee (Becky) Gordon, MN, four grandchildren, Connor, Macy, Amber and Avery, two brother-in-laws, Richard (Mary) McLaughlin, Punta Gorda, FL, Paul (Shirley) McLaughlin, Belmond and a sister-in-law Barbara Ann McLaughlin, Fort Collins, CO. Judy is preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Mary Gordon.
